Mapping the destruction of Rohingya villages

Satellite imagery, fire data and open-source verification were combined to establish which settlements were destroyed, when, and in what sequence, structured building by building rather than reported as an estimate.

The result is a public, queryable evidence base used by researchers, journalists and accountability bodies, and a method that has since been reused in Sudan, Nigeria and Ukraine.

Anatomy of a Killing

A video of a mass execution circulated with no location, no date and no names. Terrain profiling, shadow analysis and satellite imagery fixed it to a specific hillside in northern Cameroon and a narrow window of time.

The soldiers were identified from open sources. The Cameroonian government initially denied the footage was genuine; the men were later convicted.
